Occlusion announces itself early if you are looking for it. Pain out of proportion, blanching that does not refill, then a dusky mottled pattern over the hours that follow. Capillary refill is your simplest bedside test. The first ten minutes matter more than anything you do later. Our complications training drills the recognition, the response and the escalation until it is automatic.
