Doctors, dentists, and nurse, midwife or pharmacist independent prescribers (V300 or equivalent annotation), always after a face-to-face consultation with the named patient. Remote or video prescribing for cosmetic toxin is banned by the GMC, GDC, GPhC and (explicitly since 1 June 2025) the NMC. The prescriber can delegate injection but remains accountable.
Botulinum toxin is a POM: a prescriber must assess the patient in person and prescribe for them by name. Delegation of the injection itself is possible (this is how non-prescriber practitioners operate), but the prescriber carries accountability for the prescribing decision and must be satisfied about the injector’s competence.
The direction of travel is unmistakable. The NMC’s 2025 rule closed the last perceived loophole by requiring face-to-face consultation for initial and follow-up prescribing, including emergency-kit items like hyaluronidase. Our prescribing workshop covers building arrangements that survive scrutiny.
