Regenerative aesthetics, meaning PRP and more recently polynucleotides, is where patient demand is growing fastest and training information is thinnest. Course pages gloss over the phlebotomy question and the kit economics, and they go very quiet on the limits of the evidence. We’d rather cover all three.

What PRP actually involves

Platelet-rich plasma is autologous: you draw the patient’s blood, concentrate the platelets by centrifugation, and re-inject the concentrate to deliver growth factors that support tissue repair and stimulation. Which means a PRP service is really three competencies stacked:

  1. Venepuncture. Taking blood competently, including the failed-draw troubleshooting that real arms provide. Most courses assume it; ours teaches and assesses it within the day, which is the single most-asked question we answer.
  2. Preparation. Anticoagulant handling, spin protocols, and the kit conversation covered below.
  3. Delivery. Facial protocols (mesotherapy patterns, microneedling-assisted application, periorbital technique) and scalp protocols for hair restoration.

The compliance line nobody mentions

Stay single-patient, same-session, autologous and you are practising a clinical treatment. Store, bank, pool or process beyond that and you cross into blood-establishment territory with regulatory requirements no aesthetics clinic wants. This boundary also exposes equipment marketing: kits promising “storage for follow-up sessions” are inviting you across a line their sales rep won’t be standing on when it matters.

Kit and centrifuge truth

Platelet yield varies dramatically between systems, and the margin structure of kit supply drives most “recommendations” you’ll hear. Evaluate on: evidenced platelet concentration factor, closed-system handling, per-treatment consumable cost (£25–£80 across the market), and centrifuge compatibility. The evidence, weighed

  • Androgenetic hair loss is the strongest use-case, with meaningful evidence of density and thickness improvement over a three-monthly-session protocol with maintenance. The limit: it slows loss and thickens what remains rather than resurrecting dead follicles, and advanced loss needs an honest referral conversation (see the hair guide).
  • For skin quality and under-eye work, expect genuine but modest improvements in texture and fine crepiness. Patient selection and expectation-setting carry the outcome.
  • PRP vs PRF is a preparation difference (PRF spins slower, uses no anticoagulant, and releases slowly from a fibrin matrix). Indication and protocol matter more than the acronym on the leaflet.

Polynucleotides, the fast riser

Polynucleotides, purified DNA fragments (famously salmon-derived) injected to stimulate fibroblast activity, went from conference topic to patient-requested treatment inside two years. The position we teach:

  • The evidence supports improvements in skin elasticity, hydration and quality across small clinical studies, with periorbital skin the standout indication and the reason “tear-trough alternative” marketing took off.
  • It doesn’t yet have large randomised trials, mature duration data, or any volumising claim behind it. Polynucleotides are not fillers, and consultations that imply tear-trough “filling” set patients up for disappointment and you for the review that follows.
  • Protocols typically run 2–3 sessions, 2–4 weeks apart, then maintenance. Product ranges differ in concentration and licensing status; we teach across the main UK-available ranges and flag manufacturer-only claims as exactly that.
