Course pages describe curricula. They rarely describe days. Here is what day one of the foundation course actually looks like, written from the trainer’s side of the room.
8.45am. Briefing over coffee. Eight delegates, today a GP, two dentists, four nurses and a pharmacist prescriber. Everyone finished the online theory last week and their knowledge-check scores are on the wall sheet, so we know exactly what to reinforce. The frontalis dosing question tripped up half the cohort, which is normal, so it opens the morning.
9.30am. The first models arrive and are consulted privately by the supervising clinician. Two are ideal for teaching. One is borderline and gets a longer consultation, then a polite decline and no charge. The delegates watch the decline debrief, because saying no is on the syllabus.
10am to 1pm. Clinical rotation one. Two treatment rooms, one trainer per four delegates. Each delegate assesses their model, presents the plan, gets it challenged, adjusts it, consents the patient and treats under direct observation. The trainer’s hand comes in twice all morning, once for an angle correction and once because a model flinched. Everything is written on the competency sheet as it happens.
1pm. Lunch, and the hyalase drill. Reconstitution against the clock, dosing maths out loud, then a scenario read from a real case file. Nobody injects anything after lunch until the drill lands under the time target.
2pm to 5pm. Rotation two, new models, harder planning. The afternoon models were selected for asymmetries and stronger frontalis patterns, so the plans take longer and the discussion gets better. One delegate finishes a treatment ahead of the group and spends the spare twenty minutes on consultation roleplay instead, because standing around is not a teaching method.
5.15pm. Feedback circle. Each delegate hears two things they did well and one thing that needs supervised repetition, in writing, signed. Then tomorrow’s filler day is previewed and everyone goes home tired in the useful way.
